Laser for example runs tests at 3+0.02 and 15+0.05. That's why you see development versions in TCEC, otherwise Houdini would have won by a very large margin last time round with only Stockfish 8 and Komodo 11.2 as opponents, and Stockfish 9 would do the same this time round.Īlso, many devleopers use TCEC as a testing ground because the majority of engines are tested on one core with games with no more than about 15 seconds thinking time per side and increments that are only fractions of a second, against the previous development version, to see if there is improvement. I expect TCEC to be closer than this results suggest because the engines will be using 43 cores instead of 1, and Komodo will be using a development version which will be stronger than 11.2. The results aren't quite as extreme as CCRL, but they still show that Stockfish is leading. On the link above scroll down to check out the head-to-head results for Stockfish 9 vs Houdini 6 and Komodo 11.2. It dismantles the latest release versions of Komodo and Houdini. Look at this page: Stockfish 9 head-to-head results on CCRL 40/4list I'm looking forward to Droidfish being updated by Peter Osterlund some time in the next week or so as that's the version of Stockfish that I personally use. As it is, all we've seen are the cherry picked highlights.ĪZ is clearly stronger, but Stockfish, and engines like it, are far from redundant, far from useless and far from weak. That's what people really want to see so they can gain understanding. 25 of those were with Stockfish playing as Black. They would also show those 72 games where Stockfish held the mighty AZ to a draw. That information would be incredibly useful for future Stockfish development, as with some analysis and tinkering, the team could work out why it couldn't pick up on the plan behind some of AZ's moves and work to strengthen those weaknesses. The most frustrating thing for the Stockfish developers (and for anyone developing a chess engine) is that Deepmind haven't yet released the other 90 PGNs from the Stockfish match. It's also going to be a long time (relatively speaking) before people can run something like AZ on a smartphone, tablet or laptop for FREE, and download a new update every 6-12 months for FREE. Although compared with AZ it's an "old fashioned" engine, it's still monstrously strong, and getting steadily stronger. On the contrary, I think the AZ match had the opposite effect for most of the Stockfish developers.
